♥ Preventative Care & Reminders

At the Central New Farm Veterinary Surgery, we believe in helping animals enjoy a long and healthy life.

Because cats and dogs age three to seven times faster than humans and they can’t tell us when they’re uncomfortable or in pain, medical conditions often develop quickly and may also go undetected until it is too late. Remember, prevention is better than cure.

Puppies and Kittens

The first few weeks of your puppy's or kitten's life are critical in terms of disease prevention and adapting to your household. Spending time with our nursing staff and vets now will pay off as your pet moves through to the next life-stage.

They need vaccinations, de-worming, health check-ups, and behaviour consultation provided in a series of simple examinations at four-week intervals.

For puppy & kitten

  • C3 or F3 vaccine at 6~8 weeks of age
  • C5 or F3 vaccine at 12 weeks of age
  • C5 or F3 vaccine at 16 weeks of age

Dogs need C5 vaccine (= C3 vaccine + KC vaccine)

  • C3 vaccine(Core vaccine) against: can be 3 yearly or yearly
    1. Parvovirus: fatal bloody diarrhoea
    2. Distemper: coughing, diarrhoea, seizure, loss of balance, blindness
    3. Hepatitis: vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, liver failure
  •  KC vaccine(Noncore vaccine) against: yearly only
    1. Bordetella bronchiseptica: kennel cough
    2. Parainfluenza: kennel cough

Cats need F3 vaccine +/- FIV or FeLV vaccine

  • F3 vaccine(Core vaccine) against:
    1. Feline panleukopaenia: gastroenteritis,  fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, liver failure or sudden death
    2. Feline Calici virus: cat flu sneezing, conjunctivitis, mouth ulcer
    3. Feline Herpes virus: cat flu sneezing, depression, conjunctivitis, inappetence or nasal & sinus infection
  • FIV & FeLV vaccines(Noncore vaccines):
    1. Feline Immunodeficiency virus(FIV): It causes an AIDS-like syndrome, but FIV is not typically fatal for cats, as they can live relatively healthily as carriers and transmitters of the disease for many years
    2. Feline leukaemia virus(FeLV): inappetance, lymphadenopathy, fever, gingivitis, anaemia, jaundice, diarrhoea

Adults (1 to 7 years of age)

It's easy to take the health of your dog or cat for granted during their active years, when they appear to ‘look after themselves’ and need very little additional care.

However this is the stage where preventative care is most critical and the financial gains, that come in the form of savings in the next life stage (the senior years).

They need regular vaccination, parasite prevention, dental & skin care & healthy check-up. All of them can be simply done on yearly vaccination at Cleveland Vet Clinic.

Seniors (Over 7 years of age)

The ageing of your pet is a natural process and is irreversible.  As cats and dogs grow older, their bodies undergo significant changes and their need for care and attention increases. Many diseases associated with advanced age can be prevented or successfully treated.

Some common health problems found in senior pets include:

  • Obesity

  • Arthritis

  • Gum / Tooth disease

  • Tumours

  • Impaired Senses

  • Kidney disease

  • Heart disease

  • Liver disease

  • Behavioural changes

Although some age related diseases in your pet cannot be treated, the onset of many can be delayed or treated successfully if they are detected early.

Central New Farm Vet Surgery sends vaccination, heartworm injection, worming & follow-up  reminders 3 times via SMS before your pets are due. If you would like to receive reminders, please ring us on 3358 4154 to up to date your mobile number.
